MYOFASCIAL FACE YOGA

A natural alternative to injections to reduce lines around the mouth and release facial tension

Over time, certain wrinkles appear as tension gradually builds in the face due to repeated expressions, stress, or muscular habits. Most face yoga methods mainly focus on the skin or the muscles, without truly addressing the fascia that can maintain these tensions within the tissues.

By discovering myofascial work, I realized that these tissues play a key role in the formation of certain expression lines — especially lines around the mouth, those folds that form near the lips and can be influenced by tension in the lower and lateral areas of the face. This approach helps release deeper tension and gradually improve the appearance of these wrinkles. It is particularly effective for reducing lines around the mouth naturally, as these folds are often linked to muscular and fascial tension in the lower face.

UNDERSTANDING FACIAL AGING Why do wrinkles appear?

Wrinkles are a natural part of the aging process. Over the years, the skin evolves, tissues transform, and the face gradually changes. However, we do not all age in the same way. Some people develop more pronounced lines around the mouth, while others have very few. Some notice a more visible loss of definition in the lower face, while others maintain well-defined contours for longer.

Why is that?

The face is living tissue. It retains the imprint of our repeated expressions, our tension patterns, and the way certain muscles contract, sometimes even without our awareness. Over time, and as the skin naturally loses elasticity, these repeated contractions gradually mark the tissues and certain wrinkles begin to appear.

Lines around the mouth, for example, often appear in people who frequently use this area of the face: when we speak, smile, or eat, the muscles of the lips, cheeks, chin, and jaw are constantly engaged. Over the years, these repeated movements can maintain tension in the tissues. Gradually, the skin begins to retain these folds and wrinkles may become visible even when the face is at rest.

However, what I realized after testing different methods without seeing real change in certain facial wrinkles is that the muscle does not explain everything.

Beneath the skin, there is a network of tissues called fascia. These tissues surround the muscles, connect them together, and contribute to the overall structure of the face. When they lose mobility, they can maintain tension within the tissues.

You can massage a muscle, try to relax it or stimulate it… but if the surrounding fascia remains restricted, the tension can quickly return.

This is exactly what I observed while working on my own face.

Why do marionette lines appear ?

Marionette lines are vertical folds that develop from the corners of the mouth down toward the chin. They gradually form when certain muscles in the lower face are repeatedly engaged over time.

Several muscles are involved in this area. The muscles around the mouth, the chin, and the jaw all contribute to facial expressions in the lower face. Speaking, smiling, eating, or expressing emotions constantly activate this zone.

At first, these lines mainly appear when the face is in motion. But over time, as the skin gradually loses elasticity and collagen, the tissues become less mobile. Tension can then settle more easily in the lower face, and marionette lines may become visible even when the face is at rest. Certain factors can also accentuate these lines, such as sun exposure, smoking, or repeated habits like tightening the mouth.

However, the cause is not always purely local. In many cases, marionette lines are also influenced by tension located elsewhere in the face. Tension in the cheeks, jaw, chin, and even the neck can maintain certain contractions around the mouth. The neck muscles, which extend into the lower face, can pull tissues downward and contribute to the formation of these folds.

This is why working only around the mouth is not always enough. For some people, relaxing the muscles around the lips may improve the appearance of wrinkles if the tension mainly comes from this area. But in other cases, it is also necessary to work on the cheeks, jaw, or neck to release the tension contributing to these lines.

This is precisely why I always take a global approach to the face: identifying where tension truly originates and working on the areas involved in these imbalances.

MY EXPERIENCE WITH MYOFASCIAL FACE YOGA When my wrinkles started to change

Here is the evolution of my frown lines before and after one month of myofascial work on the facial fascia.

Honestly, I was surprised myself, because after more than a year of testing different methods, it was the first time I observed a real change.

That is when I understood that working deeply on the fascia could truly release certain facial tensions — those involved in the formation of some wrinkles.

To understand how I arrived at this approach, we need to go back a little.

Over the years, my frown lines were becoming more and more visible, and it had become a real concern. Like many women, I wanted to know if it was possible to improve things naturally, without resorting to injections.

For more than a year, I experimented with different face yoga and massage techniques, both in France and abroad. Each time, I practiced them consistently for several months before trying a new method, convinced that regular practice would eventually bring results. But the wrinkle remained. At times, I even felt that the tension between my eyebrows was becoming more pronounced.

I then discovered deep myofascial work. This approach was very different from everything I had tried before. It was no longer just about massaging the area between the eyebrows or stimulating the muscle responsible for the wrinkle, but about releasing tension deeper within the tissues and understanding which areas of the face were truly involved in this contraction — sometimes even higher, at the level of the scalp.

Gradually, the tissues began to regain mobility and the area between my eyebrows relaxed. This did not happen overnight, but over the weeks the release became visible and my frown lines gradually softened.

That is when I understood something essential: the solution was not to multiply exercises to relax the muscle, nor to work only on the area where the wrinkle appears. To truly act, it was necessary to go deeper, at the level of the fascia, where tension can settle and persist.

By observing these changes on my face, I began applying this approach to other areas of the face. I noticed in particular that a line near the corner of my mouth — similar to marionette lines — also responded when certain tensions in the lower face were released. Here is the evolution of this line near the mouth after several weeks of myofascial work on facial tissues.

Since then, this understanding has guided my entire practice and the approach I offer today.

How to reduce marionette lines naturally?

Many people wonder how to reduce marionette lines naturally, especially when these folds become more visible from the corners of the mouth down toward the chin.

Marionette lines generally appear when tension gradually builds in the lower face. This tension may be linked to repeated expressions — such as speaking or tightening the mouth — but also to contractions located in other areas, particularly in the cheeks, jaw, or neck.

To reduce marionette lines naturally, it is therefore not always enough to work only on the area where the wrinkles are visible. In some cases, relaxing the muscles around the mouth may be sufficient if the tension mainly comes from this area. But in many situations, it is also necessary to work on the cheeks, jaw, or neck to release the tension contributing to these folds.

This is why myofascial facial work can be particularly effective. By acting on the fascia — the tissues that surround and connect the muscles — it becomes possible to release deeper tension and restore mobility within the tissues of the lower face.

Gradually, as this tension decreases, the area around the mouth can relax and marionette lines may become less pronounced.

This work requires consistency and a good understanding of the face, as each person presents different tension patterns. The goal is not to completely erase wrinkles, but to support the face in a more natural way by releasing the tension that contributes to their formation.

A PERSONALIZED APPROACH Based on myofascial facial work

My approach is mainly based on myofascial facial work, a technique that acts on the fascia to release certain tensions and improve tissue mobility.

Facial muscles do not function independently. Unlike other areas of the body, they overlap and work together, surrounded by a network of fascia that connects and supports all the tissues. When tension builds in one area, it can impact other parts of the face.

This is why the origin of a wrinkle or sagging is not always located where it appears. Marionette lines, for example, may be influenced by tension in the cheeks, jaw, or neck. In the same way, a loss of firmness in the lower face is not always only linked to the mouth area itself. It can also be influenced by tension in the lateral face, particularly in the masseter, or in the neck — especially in the sternocleidomastoid (SCM) or the platysma — or even by posture when it pulls the tissues downward.

Several factors can therefore be at the origin of tension or sagging. That is why my work always begins with a precise analysis of the face: observing where tension is located, how the tissues move, and which areas are truly involved in the imbalance.

From this facial analysis, I then build a tailored routine. I rely on specific protocols for each area, but they are never applied in the same way. Depending on the face, some techniques will be prioritized while others will be less necessary.

The goal is to offer targeted, coherent, and realistic work that can be integrated into daily life. Because it is not the number of exercises that makes the difference, but the accuracy of the movements and their consistency. Myofascial work relies on precise, slow, and deep movements to truly act on the fascia and restore mobility within the tissues.

It is this detailed analysis and this deep, precise work that allows for real and lasting change.

After more than ten years in the cosmetics industry, an allergic reaction to a skincare product led me to question what I was applying to my skin. I then began searching for healthier and more respectful products, and that is when I discovered Ringana. At first, I simply wanted to better hydrate my skin with more natural products, without imagining the changes this would bring.

Over time, my skin rebalanced and my hormonal acne gradually disappeared. But as I approached my forties, certain wrinkles began to appear, especially in the lower face. I did not want to rely on injections. Face yoga then became a natural next step, allowing me to work where products cannot intervene: the muscles and the fascia.

I first practiced on myself for over a year, testing different techniques and observing how my face responded. Some brought relaxation or more radiance to my skin, but I did not notice any real change in my wrinkles. Then I discovered deep myofascial work. It is the only approach that truly transformed the appearance of my wrinkles, particularly in the lower face and around the mouth.

Observing these changes on my own face made me want to go further. I chose to train in order to deepen this approach and support other women who want to reduce their wrinkles naturally — especially marionette lines — and take care of their skin without injections.

FACIAL AGING Why does each face age differently?

Not all faces age in the same way. In some people, expression lines are more pronounced; in others, the face tends to sag more; while others mainly develop fine lines. These different patterns provide insight into how facial tissues evolve over time.

In reality, a single face often shows several of these characteristics. That is why my work is not only about identifying a type of aging, but above all about observing how the face has evolved and which tensions have gradually developed.

Understanding this evolution makes it possible to approach wrinkles differently: no longer just as visible marks on the skin, but as the expression of tension or imbalance within the facial tissues.

Learning to read facial wrinkles

Over the years, the skin gradually loses elasticity and collagen. It then more easily marks the folds that appear through repeated expressions: smiling, speaking, or tightening the mouth. Wrinkles are therefore a natural part of how the face evolves.

However, not everyone develops the same wrinkles or in the same areas.

Each face retains the imprint of repeated expressions and accumulated tension over time. Some people strongly engage the lower face when speaking, others clench their jaw or tense certain areas without even realizing it. Over the years, these repeated contractions progressively leave a deeper mark on the tissues.

Facial muscles are closely interconnected and surrounded by fascia that envelop the tissues. When tension develops in one area, it can maintain other areas of the face in a state of contraction. A visible wrinkle does not always mean that the cause is located exactly there. Marionette lines, for example, can be influenced by tension in the cheeks, jaw, or even the neck.

Understanding what is really happening within the tissues makes it possible to act more accurately: releasing tension where it forms, restoring mobility in the fascia, and working on the areas truly involved rather than only focusing on the visible wrinkle.

My holistic method A global approach to facial beauty

An approach centered on myofascial work

My method has been built through training, daily practice, and careful observation of my own face. By working on my wrinkles, I understood that the face cannot be treated in isolation.

For a long time, I focused on massaging facial muscles, trying to relax the most contracted areas. But it was by discovering the role of fascia — these tissues that connect and surround the different structures of the face — that I began to see real changes in my wrinkles. Myofascial work is the approach that has most transformed my face, particularly in the lower face.

Over time, I also understood that it is not necessary to work on all areas of the face every day. The practice remains consistent, but the areas are alternated to allow the tissues — and the fascia — time to release and soften.

My approach therefore consists of working with precision: focusing on fewer areas at a time, but in a more targeted way, with slow and deep movements that allow the fascia to regain flexibility and elasticity.

The face does not function independently from the rest of the body

Gradually, I also understood that the skin, muscles, fascia, circulation, and lifestyle are closely interconnected. It is the balance between these different elements that allows for lasting and natural results.

Within this global balance, nutrition also plays an important role. Facial tissues, like all tissues in the body, need nutrients to maintain and renew themselves. Proteins help support muscles and tissues, while certain lipids contribute to skin flexibility and radiance. A balanced diet therefore helps tissues remain more toned and better support the skin.

This is why my support does not only consist of teaching face yoga exercises or working on fascia. During consultations, I also address lifestyle more broadly in order to understand what may limit — or on the contrary support — the effects of the work done on the face.

This global understanding then allows me to define a routine adapted to each face: which exercises to prioritize, how often to practice them, and certain lifestyle and nutrition recommendations.

Can marionette lines be reduced without injections?

Many people today consider injections or Botox for marionette lines, as the lower face is often treated this way in aesthetic medicine.

Injections may appear as a quick solution to smooth wrinkles. They work by limiting muscle contraction or restoring volume, which can reduce the appearance of lines.

However, by reducing the activity of certain muscles, they also modify the natural dynamics of the face. Over time, a less active muscle may lose tone, which can sometimes shift the issue toward a lack of support once the effect wears off.

Injections also do not address certain essential aspects of facial aging, such as tissue quality, circulation, or fascia mobility.

Face yoga and manual myofascial work offer a different approach: they work with the muscles, fascia, and facial tissues to release tension, support areas lacking tone, and stimulate circulation.

FAQ Frequently asked questions

How can you reduce marionette lines naturally?

Many people are looking for ways to reduce marionette lines naturally, especially when these lines become more visible over time and remain present even when the face is at rest. Marionette lines are often linked to repeated contractions in the lower face, particularly around the mouth, jaw, and chin. These movements are part of everyday life — speaking, smiling, eating — and over time, they can maintain tension in the tissues.

As the skin gradually loses elasticity and collagen, these repeated contractions begin to leave a more visible imprint on the tissues. The folds can deepen, and marionette lines may become more noticeable, especially when the lower face lacks support or when tension is maintained over time.

To act naturally, it is important not only to focus on the visible wrinkle, but also to understand the origin of the tension that maintains it. Myofascial work allows deeper action on the tissues by restoring mobility in the fascia and helping the muscles of the lower face relax. By releasing tension in areas such as the cheeks, jaw, or neck, it becomes possible to reduce the mechanical forces that contribute to these lines.

With regular practice, the lower face can gradually relax, the tissues regain mobility, and marionette lines may appear softer and less marked. The goal is not to erase wrinkles completely, but to support the face in a more natural and balanced way.

Face yoga can be practiced at any age. Some people begin in their late twenties or early thirties to prevent the appearance of early wrinkles, while others start later when marionette lines or other signs of aging become more visible.

Starting earlier can help maintain good tissue mobility and prevent the installation of certain tension patterns. However, even when wrinkles are already present, it is still possible to improve the appearance of the face by working on tension and restoring mobility in the tissues.

The goal is not to stop aging, which is a natural and inevitable process, but to support the face over time by reducing unnecessary tension and maintaining balance between the different structures of the face. This is particularly important for areas like the lower face, where marionette lines can be influenced by multiple factors.

Results vary depending on each face, the level of tension present, and the regularity of the practice. Some people may feel a more relaxed face after just a few sessions, particularly in areas where tension is high.

However, to observe visible changes in marionette lines, it generally takes several weeks of consistent practice. The tissues need time to regain mobility, and the muscles need to relearn how to function in a more relaxed and balanced way.

On average, the first visible improvements may appear after a few weeks, with more noticeable changes developing over two to three months of regular practice. The key factor remains consistency and the precision of the techniques used.

Injections and facial work do not act in the same way and do not pursue the same objective. Injections aim to quickly reduce the appearance of wrinkles by limiting muscle activity or restoring volume in specific areas.

Face yoga and myofascial work, on the other hand, aim to work with the natural functioning of the face. They focus on releasing tension, improving tissue mobility, and supporting the overall balance of the facial structure.

Rather than freezing expressions or masking wrinkles, this approach helps the face function more harmoniously. Over time, this can lead to a softening of certain lines, including marionette lines, while preserving natural facial expressions.

Regularity is important to obtain results, but this does not necessarily mean practicing intensively every day. In fact, overworking certain areas may sometimes maintain or increase tension rather than release it.

In my approach, the idea is to focus on the areas that truly need attention and to create a routine that is realistic and adapted to your daily life. The work is often alternated between different areas of the face to allow the tissues time to recover and integrate the changes.

A consistent and well-structured routine, even if relatively short, is generally more effective than long, irregular sessions.

Yes, this can happen. Exercises that are not adapted to the face, or that are performed with too much tension, may reinforce existing contraction patterns instead of releasing them.

For example, repeatedly activating a muscle without addressing the underlying tension in the fascia may maintain or even worsen certain wrinkles, including marionette lines.

That is why it is essential to understand the origin of the wrinkle and to work not only on the muscle, but also on the fascia and surrounding tissues. A precise and adapted approach helps avoid these issues and allows for more effective and lasting results.

Myofascial work can sometimes feel slightly intense, especially in areas where tension has been present for a long time. However, it should never be painful.

The movements are performed gradually and are adapted to each face. Over time, as the tissues regain mobility and flexibility, the sensations generally become more comfortable.

The goal is to work in depth while respecting the tissues, not to force or create discomfort.

Even when sagging is already present, it is still possible to improve tissue mobility and support the face through targeted work.

Marionette lines are often associated with a loss of support in the lower face, but they can also be influenced by tension in surrounding areas. By releasing this tension and improving the balance between the different structures of the face, it is possible to soften the appearance of these lines.

The goal is not to completely transform the face, but to support its natural evolution in a more harmonious way.
